What makes good biomass wood pellets?

Consistent quality, low moisture content, appropriate storage and careful delivery all contribute to reliable pellet boiler performance. LC Energy supplies quality wood pellets backed by practical experience of biomass fuel storage and delivery.

01

Fuel quality

Consistent pellets for reliable heating

Wood pellets are manufactured to provide a consistent biomass fuel with controlled dimensions, moisture and quality. LC Energy supplies ENplus A1 wood pellets, suitable for a wide range of domestic and commercial biomass heating systems.

ENplus A1 certification logo

LC Energy supplies wood pellets certified to the ENplus A1 quality standard. ENplus provides requirements covering areas such as pellet dimensions, moisture, durability, ash content and production quality and delivery helping provide a consistent fuel for biomass heating systems.

Wood pellets are manufactured from virgin softwood and sawmill residues and have a nominal diameter of 6mm, providing a consistent fuel designed for automated pellet heating systems.

The pellets typically have a moisture content of 6–10%.

Biomass Suppliers List (BSL) authorised logo

LC Energy supplies wood pellets authorised on the Biomass Suppliers List (BSL), demonstrating that the registered fuel meets the applicable RHI sustainability and fuel-quality requirements.

For customers who remain part of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), the relevant BSL authorisation number is provided on fuel documentation to support ongoing reporting and compliance requirements.

The BSL also provides independent assurance around the sustainability and quality requirements applying to registered biomass fuels.

02

Bulk blown delivery

Delivered directly to your fuel store

LC Energy provides bulk blown wood pellet deliveries directly into suitable pellet stores, with typical loads of 3–18 tonnes.

For blown deliveries, an unloading distance of 25 metres or less is optimum, with a maximum delivery tolerance of approximately 30 metres. Site access, store position and filling arrangements should be considered when planning a delivery.

Our experienced drivers take care to protect pellet quality throughout delivery, ensuring your fuel reaches the store safely and efficiently.

03

Storage

Keeping your pellets in good condition

Wood pellets need to be kept dry and stored correctly to maintain their quality. Moisture can cause pellets to break down, which can affect fuel handling and boiler performance.

Your pellet store should be suitable for bulk blown delivery, with appropriate access and connections for the delivery vehicle. If you’re unsure whether your existing store is suitable, talk to our team before arranging your first delivery.

Wood pellet questions we hear a lot.

ENplus A1 is a recognised quality classification for wood pellets used for heating. It sets requirements for characteristics including pellet dimensions, moisture, ash content, durability and other quality measures. LC Energy supplies ENplus A1-certified pellets to provide a consistent, quality-controlled biomass fuel.

LC Energy supplies 6mm wood pellets, a commonly used size for automated pellet biomass heating systems. Your boiler manufacturer’s fuel specification should always be checked to ensure you are using the correct fuel for your particular system.

LC Energy delivers bulk blown wood pellets directly into suitable fuel stores using specialist delivery vehicles, with typical loads of 15–18 tonnes. Our experienced drivers take care to protect pellet quality throughout delivery.

Wood pellets should be stored in a suitable, dry fuel store and protected from moisture. Exposure to water or excessive moisture can cause pellets to swell and break down, affecting their quality and potentially causing problems with fuel-handling equipment.

Pellet consumption varies according to the size and efficiency of your biomass system, the amount of heat required, the building and seasonal demand. Your previous consumption is often the most useful starting point for an existing installation. Our team can discuss your requirements and help plan deliveries around your usage and storage capacity.
