What makes good biomass wood chip?
The right wood chip specification matters. Fuel quality, moisture content, particle size, storage and delivery can all affect the performance and reliability of a biomass heating system.

Fuel quality
Consistent fuel for reliable heating
Not all wood chip is the same. The specification needs to suit the boiler and fuel-handling system, with appropriate particle size, moisture content and consistency.
LC Energy supplies wood chip authorised on the Biomass Suppliers List (BSL), demonstrating that the registered fuel meets the applicable RHI sustainability and fuel-quality requirements.
For customers who remain part of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), the relevant BSL authorisation number is provided on fuel documentation to support ongoing reporting and compliance requirements.
The BSL also provides independent assurance around the sustainability and quality requirements applying to registered biomass fuels.

To achieve the Woodsure certification standard, LC Energy undergoes a rigorous assessment process and regular monitoring to ensure continued compliance with the Woodsure Certification standards.
Grown in Britain certification provides assurance that certified timber originates from UK sources meeting the scheme’s responsible sourcing requirements. LC Energy’s certified wood chip supports traceable UK timber supply chains.

Demand for responsibly sourced wood fuel can provide a productive market for lower-grade timber, thinnings and other material generated through woodland management that may not be suitable for higher-value uses.
Creating value from this material can help support the ongoing management of woodlands, including thinning and regeneration, while keeping the focus on using timber responsibly and through established supply chains.
